National WABIA Livability Index

Weather – Costa Rica has some of the world’s best weather. National Geographic has stated that highland areas in the San Jose Valley have some of the best climates on earth. Although it does not snow here, high mountain areas can be chilly. High mountain valley temperatures are gentle and warm. Coastal lowlands temperatures are mild in the wet season and hot in the dry season.

Access - Costa Rica is accessible from almost all international airports. Many ocean cruise lines offer Costa Rica ports as overseas destinations. Over 25 domestic airports provide access to a wide variety of locations all within 30-minutes to an hour or so from the capital.

Beauty - CostaRicahas been blessed with miles of stunning coastline, breathtaking mountains and volcanoes, tropical rainforests, mysterious cloud forests, geothermic activity, an over abundance of animals, a maze of estuaries, placid gulfs and exotic flowers. Vivid vegetation and varied weather create ever-changing daily portraits.

Infrastructure - Costa Rica has two international airports (San Jose Valley and the Pacific Northwest). The Inter American Highway runs from Nicaragua to Panama and a coastal highway parallels the mainland shores. The country is building new bridges to span valleys and cross rivers. Dams that facilitate hydroelectric energy dot the nation. Seaports assist ferries that cross its gulfs. Cargo ports in Caldera and Limon ship and receive goods and entertain cruise ships passengers.

Amenities – A state of the art hospital, major car dealerships, and several large indoor shopping malls are found in San Jose. Along with international cuisine of all types, there are fast food restaurants and many large and small restaurants serving local dishes. Warehouse style shopping is available as well as mega-supermarkets, specialty shopping and warehouse style office supply stores. New shopping amenities are coming to select coastal areas and of course surf exists all along the coast. Many new marquee resorts and a large variety of small distinctive hotels are found up and down the coast and in select inland locations.
