Rewards require risk and Costa Rica does include some risk, but it’s not from banking, or from the Costa Rica government, crime, or civil unrest. The most realistic risk is from a lack of experience in a newfound country.

 

On a Personal Note

First, a bit about the book: There is a reason why Costa Rica Now contains three books. In almost 20 years of traveling, living or investing in Costa Rica, and from my career as a consultant, plus years of leading Cash-in on Costa Rica Real Estate seminars, I found three common mistakes people frequently make–so I wrote a book about each one.
One mistake is buying in a beautiful location. That may not sound too bad, but when there are so many beautiful locations from which to choose, and you find one that suits you best–after you have purchased or located somewhere else, well… it makes you wish you had researched the country’s many diverse regions a bit better. The first book, Costa Rica Six Unique Regions, helps prevent that mistake.
I love Costa Rican culture and cherish the friendships I have in Costa Rica. That said another mistake is moving to Costa Rica without having a clue about its culture. The second book, Live the Dream, reveals attitudes and customary practices found here. It’s enchanting to live with people and customs to which you relate. It’s disenchanting if you don’t resonate with the people and their unwritten social rules. This book examines some of the unwritten rules of Costa Rica living and what to expect when dealing with the locals.
The most devastating mistake is buying a problem when you thought you were buying a property. The third book, the Costa Rica Owner’s Manual prevents that–if you heed its advice. It presents a comprehensive account of the purchase process and the involved professionals. Its three chapters provide information that enables you to experience a seamless purchase, and protect your subsequent ownership. It also offers important advice about caretakers, builders and architects.
